Unilateral Fenestration versus Open Laminectomy in Treatment of Degenerative Stenosis of Lumbar Spine

Background: The syndrome of degenerative lumbar canal stenosis accounts for a large percentage causes low back pain in the elderly worldwide. Surgical management has demonstrated better clinical and radiological results than conservative treatment. It allows adequate decompression thecal sac compressed nerve roots. However, aggressive laminectomy with facetectomy been linked many postoperative complications including instability. Hence, new less invasive modalities have introduced such as fenestration endoscopic laminotomy. Objective: This study aimed at comparing safety outcome conventional to unilateral cases stenosis. Patients methods: took place Neurosurgery Department Zagazig University included thirty six patients stenosis; eighteen were treated by fenestration. Results: Decompression led an intense decrease total both groups. Matched that experience group I, but, more remaining leg was found II, 6.58±0.99 6.75±0.96, respectively, compared 2.16±0.57 2.75±0.86 , 12 weeks follow-up assessment (p < 0.001). most obvious symptom stenosis, neurogenic claudication improved 91% I 83% Group II. Patient satisfaction higher who underwent showed postoperatively. Conclusion: Unilateral acceptable safe spinal stenosis.
